Online solicitation of a minor occurs when a person at least 17 years old uses electronic means to ask a minor to meet them, with the intent that the minor will engage in sexual behavior. A “minor” is someone the defendant believes is under 17 years old. Online solicitation of a minor is a second-degree felony, carrying a term of imprisonment of 2 to 20 years, plus a fine up to $10,000. A person convicted of online solicitation of a minor or given deferred adjudication must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
