Being charged with online solicitation of a minor can be a terrifying and stressful experience.
The crime is a serious felony that has become more popular with law enforcement due to the relative ease of getting a conviction. Officers and prosecutors often focus on publicly shaming and humiliating the person accused, and can convince them to incriminate themselves or even admit guilt before they have acted on their right to consult a lawyer.
Juries, swayed by moral outrage, frequently impose harsh sentences.
Online solicitation cases need a lawyer with specialized knowledge and expertise. The Neal Davis Law Firm understands the unique computer forensic issues, restrictive bond requirements, and evolving law of these cases, and can work with you to find your best defense strategy.
Online solicitation of a minor occurs when a person at least 17 years old uses electronic means to ask a minor to meet them, with the intent that the minor will engage in sexual behavior. A “minor” is someone the defendant believes is under 17 years old. Online solicitation of a minor is a second-degree felony, carrying a term of imprisonment of 2 to 20 years, plus a fine up to $10,000. A person convicted of online solicitation of a minor or given deferred adjudication must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
“Words cant express how grateful i am for having Neil on my side. I was involved in a police sting for online solicitation. When i though my life was over i contacted Neil. He told me he would do everything he could to get me out of my situation. He kept me up to date and answered when i called. In the end my case ended with a no bill and i can finally start living my life again.”
