A retired Harris County sheriff’s deputy won’t face prison time after he was convicted of sexually assaulting his former girlfriend’s young daughter.
John Van Trump, 69, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years deferred adjudication for aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to Harris County court records.
Trump was arrested in November 2013 and was initially charged with super aggravated sexual assault because the victim was under 6 at the time.
The girl was 8 when the former sheriff’s deputy was arrested. She told family members earlier that year that Trump had molested her several times.
Sheriff’s detectives then launched an investigation that led to the arrest.
Trump spent more than 30 years with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He retired as a sergeant in 2009 after his final assignment at the county courthouse.
