A prominent Houston chef with no legal history of sex crimes has been charged in Harris County with two counts of indecency with a child. Bruce Molzan, owner of Ruggles Black restaurant, was arrested and posted a pair of $10,000 bonds.
Appearing in court Monday, Molzan was told he cannot go within 200 feet of a school or anywhere children congregate.
Like many Americans, has Molzan been falsely accused of a sex crime?
His attorney thinks so. He attributes the indecency with a child claims to ongoing child custody and visitation issues in a family court proceeding following Molzan’s divorce from his wife and former business partner.
In a statement released to KTRK ABC13, Molzan’s attorney said there is “no better way of gaining leverage in a child custody matter than by filing false complaints.” He’s confident about proving to the grand jury that the charges are false, and he believes the charges will be dismissed.
Have you been falsely accused of a sex crime with a child?
If so, you clearly need an experienced and knowledgeable sex crime lawyer to handle your case, whether it involves a false allegation of indecency with a child or some other sex crime.
Gaining legal leverage in child visitation or child custody disputes is just one of many reasons for false accusations, whether they’re for indecency with a child or some other sex crime.
You too can be falsely accused by a complainant who’s trying to receive higher child support payments. You can be falsely accused as a form of revenge by a spurned spouse or partner. Or you can be falsely accused due to a simple misunderstanding.
Such claims must be met head-on in the legal arena, especially in light of today’s tendency to rush to judgment fueled, in part, by the #MeToo movement.
Rightly or wrongly, many persons have been accused of sex crimes and have quickly lost their jobs and social standing as a result, regardless of their guilt or innocence, which has yet to be proven.
Indeed, the longtime legal standard of “presumption of innocence” — a clear part of Texas law — has been trampled in these troubled times. Instead, defendants who have been accused of sex crimes are often presumed to be guilty, and are tried and convicted in the so-called court of public opinion, long before they’ve had a chance to defend themselves legally.
