When I was in law school, I realized the two most prestigious and reliable awards a lawyer could receive were an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbel and to be named to the Best Lawyers of America. Why these specific accreditations? Because these awards are based on reviews from a lawyer’s clients, his peers, and judges he has appeared in front of. Only a small selection of lawyers is awarded either one, and an even smaller percentage earns both an AV rating and a listing in the Best Lawyers of America.
Whenever I look for an attorney to be co-counsel outside of my jurisdiction, I confirm whether they are AV rated and/or listed in the Best Lawyers in America. It’s that important.
